First Official Post

Just to let you know, I'm not a professional ghost hunter- I am merely a 16 year old adolescent teenager who seeks fun in places kids his age should not be...

I've never seen a ghost close up, but I have seen orbs and other sorts of activities during everyday life. These never struck me as ghosts, until my grandma told me of four ghosts she had seen in her old home, only feet away from her, which made me believe in them as well.

Many of you will be saying, "You nut case! Ghosts don't exist!"

This is exactly the response I'd expect from a skeptical person, because I was one! So I'd know.

I've never been on a ghost hunt myself, but I will be doing so (legally!) sometime in the near future- hopefully.

In this blog I'll be keeping you up to date with my progress on becoming a Teenage Ghost Hunter: What to take, what to do and how to do it (legally)!

1. Firstly... what is a ghost?

"A ghost - or spirit or apparition - is the energy, soul or personality of a person who has died and has somehow gotten stuck between this plane of existence and the next. Most researchers believe that these spirits do not know they are dead. Very often they have died under traumatic, unusual or highly emotional circumstances. Ghosts can be perceived by the living in a number of ways: through sight (apparitions), sound (voices), smell (frangrances and odors), touch - and sometimes they can just be sensed."

2. What is a ghost hunt?
"Going to a place were there have been no sightings of ghosts and trying to catch some on film (video and photos), sounds, eyewitness, etc. (graveyards are the number one place to start, churches, schools and older buildings too)"

3. What is a ghost investigation?
"Going to a known haunted place and recording data (video, photos, audio, temperatures), notes, interviews and other evidence to prove/disprove the haunting and to assist the owners and the spirits in moving on and leaving the place if they want that. The assistance can be either you directly assisting the owner with the situation or putting them in contact with experienced groups or individuals that will try to resolve the situation. Your assistance can be something as simple as educating them on what is going on and their options."

4. Possible encounters:
"There are generally 2 types of spirits you may encounter. One was a human at one time and it has remained on this level for some reason. It may not know it's dead, may be held here by unfinished business, guilt, etc. These spirits are like the person was when they were alive, so they could be good or bad, just like the living, but not normally dangerous. This human spirit is the type you will encounter 95% of the time. You could also witness a residual haunting which is just a playback of a past event. This is just like watching a video from the past playing over and over. The other type of spirit you may encounter were never human and are generally bad news. You must be aware of this type but not obsessed with them, the chances that you will encounter them in a regular ghost hunt are slim. I have experienced both types and I just want to make you aware of their existence. So be aware and protect yourself and you should have no problem."

5. Is ghost hunting dangerous?
Yes, it can be very dangerous, that's why you NEVER do it alone. Not only because of the ghosts, who do not tend to be violent, but because of dangerous surroundings, aggressive people passing by the site and being arrested if you do it illegally. I strongly recommend you don't go ghost hunting if you're below the age of 15 (even then, if you're 18 and you're afraid of things, then ghost hunting is not for you unless you get over your fear)
